Innovative and distinctive design

The owners’ brief for this exclusive Sandhurst home was to create an innovative and distinctive design that would cater for their family needs. The key design requirement was to capitalize on golf course views to the east and distant views of the Dandenong Ranges to the North East, as well as ensuring privacy from adjacent homes to the south and west.

The home also had to meet strict design covenants dictated by the developer and was intended to be distinctly different from volume-built homes in the area.

    Outdoor living is the focus

    Open spaces spilling out to generous outdoor decking and balcony areas were paramount. In addition the clients wanted to maximize the block – offering generous accommodation and storage yet ample yard space to the rear.

    Immediately upon entry, the stunning golf course aspect through the open plan living space captivates you. Off the entry hall is a lounge, which features a gas log fireplace, and an alternate entry from the double garage leads through a mudroom to the gallery past a downstairs bathroom.

    Designing to follow the slope of land resulted in a 500mm step down in the gallery creating a dramatic arrival into the main living space creating a sense of space and luxury through 3.2m high ceilings. This step down adds another feature and zones the spaces.

    A family room with a feature gas log fireplace and dining room are perfectly positioned off the kitchen with large corner stacker doors opening to a covered alfresco and BBQ area.

    A key feature of the design is the swimming pool, integrated into a north-facing courtyard with the home built around and partly over. This locates the pool adjacent to the gallery creating a striking feature to the home.

    Location achieves privacy

    This location achieves privacy for the pool area and maximises northern exposure. The overhang of the first floor makes a feature of the structural support and provides a degree of shade from hot summer sun.
