Rod & Joanne – Sorrento

Set high among the canopies of Sorrento, Rod and Joanne’s custom-designed home is more than just a modern holiday haven, it’s a retirement sanctuary, purposefully crafted to capture light, landscape and lasting lifestyle value.

Designed and delivered by Latitude 37, this unique retreat was inspired by its natural surroundings and tailored to every detail of the couple’s vision for effortless, elevated coastal living.

“When I first pulled up to the site, you’re confronted with this beautiful 15-metre high Moreton Bay fig tree. It really captures your eye - it was the inspiration. I could just see this modern treehouse sitting amongst the canopy.” – Paul Smith, Lead Designer

That tree, along with Rod and Joanne’s clear vision, became the centrepiece for a design shaped by light, elevation and serenity. Their brief was both aspirational and detailed: a north-facing home that captured natural light, panoramic views in three directions, split living zones for two families to share, and a contemporary aesthetic that would stand the test of time.

The result is a three-level coastal retreat, serviced by a custom lift, with expansive bay views and floor-to-ceiling windows that draw the outside in. The upper level opens onto a spacious, covered balcony, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living. On the ground floor, a rumpus room and kitchenette flow directly to the pool deck and alfresco area, creating a functional zone for entertaining and family time.

Throughout the journey, Rod and Joanne worked closely with Latitude 37’s in-house design and build team to make decisions that felt both informed and intuitive. From capturing ocean views and framing the feature tree, to ensuring flow between the kitchen, dining and alfresco zones - every detail was purposeful.

From the outside in, the material palette reflects coastal elegance and contemporary confidence. A mix of natural timber cladding, concrete-look render and sleek black Axon cladding grounds the home in its beachside location while offering a refined, modern finish.
